icon Bee Swarm Relocation

I was called to help move this swarm from the bench at Battlefield Ford. The swarm is now doing well in its new home.

 

La Bee da Loca owner Felecia and her husband assisted with the relocation of a swarm.
I was able to remove this small swarm and relocate to a hive box. It is coming along very well and the queen is busy building brood.

The bees are bearding. Helping to keep the internal temperature and airflow in the hive, they just hang out on the front of the hive. It’s also a sign of a strong colony.

icon   Honey Bee Facts

  • Honey is the only insect-created food with therapeutic, medicinal, nutritional and cosmetic value.
  • A honey bee visits 50 to 100 flowers during a collection trip.
  • They can fly at speeds of up to 15 mph!
  • During honey production periods, spring and summer, a worker bee’s life span is about 6 weeks.
  • The average honeybee will actually make only one twelfth of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime… About the size of your pinky fingernail.

  • Only one queen exists in a colony of bees, and only she lays eggs.
  • Worker bees are all females, but do not lay eggs.
  • Drone bees are all males made from unfertilized eggs. They also do not have a stinger.
